Work History

March 2023 - Now

Associate Mechanical Engineer

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory | West Mifflin, PA

Due to the nature of this job, exact details regarding what I do are not something I can share. Broadly, I support the research and development of a line of automated precision motion control systems with nuclear power applications.

  • Operated outside of the traditional mechanical engineer scope, involving myself with electrical, software, and systems engineering tasks.
  • Advocated for cost-saving manufacturing methods in place of traditional monolithic machining processes.
  • A ton of stuff I can't talk about.

As a contracted member of the PILOTS research team, I provided technical support for cutting-edge research projects both in deployment and during their design phases. I pushed to improve written documentation and took ownership of neglected processes and technologies by updating their documentation or integrating them into other more current workflows.

  • Supported cutting-edge prototype image capture system design. Worked closely with researchers at Meta’s Reality Labs Research.
  • Designed, drafted, and installed A/V system layouts and implemented hardware upgrades to existing research capture systems.
  • Learned from “move fast and break things” approach to prototype design -- Get it done now so you can learn what the next roadblock is.

Dec 2022 - Mar 2023

System Integrator

IG @ Meta Reality Labs | Pittsburgh, PA

October 2019 - December 2019

Maintenance Engineering Intern

Bristol Metals | Munhall, PA
  • In charge of revamping the spare-parts inventory of the Munhall factory. Responsibilities included evaluating uncataloged inventory for relevance and creating a comprehensive catalog of hundreds of active motors
  • Worked on parts requisition for missing replacement parts when possible and CAD modeled unobtainable replacement parts for local fabrication.
  • Worked full-time with the Mechanical Design team, providing administrative and analytical assistance to modification work preceding the Unit 3 refueling outage.
  • Provided data to support upgrades to Main Steam safety systems (specifically, Main Steam Isolation Valves).
  • Completed Federal Radworker Training; full security clearances (unescorted plant access) at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Plant.

June 2019 - August 2019

Mechanical Engineering Intern

Exelon Generation | Peach Bottom APS, Delta PA

July 2018 - August 2018

Mechanical Engineering Intern

Exelon Generation | Peach Bottom APS, Delta PA
  • Gained hands-on experience in the nuclear energy industry on a dynamic cross-disciplinary team -- the Emergency Engineering Response Team.
  • Scripted a paper-to-digital filer converter to help modernize old tables into searchable ones. This was used to convert thousands of pages of part data into a searchable database.
  • Developed and proposed a plan to senior Exelon management to save $400,000 on electrical installations to resolve a loss-of-power event to EPA-compliance sensors. This novel solution utilized a mobile solar power station and was implemented rapidly.
